OK then, where would you not expect to find a toad? Hmm - 6" down a water main stop cock pit, sitting on the tap handle? You can just see it there - I'm glad I saw it in time too otherwise things could have gotten a bit messy for both of us..... I took it out and tried to give it somewhere else to hibernate (by bowling it over-arm into a pile of brambles - just kidding!). It was about 1" long from snout to tail.
